The Tale of the Dueling Neurosurgeons |
- I thoroughly enjoy his quirky style,
- I am impressed with the depth of his research, and
- I love beyond measure the way way he uses end notes to gift gems of historical trivia to the reader.
I have two regrets.
- I read the book too fast.
- At 382 pages the book was too short.
I can highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.
Don't think that it is not scholarly enough because it appeals to the casual reader. The research is thorough and rigorous.
Don't think that the book will be too highbrow or boring because it is appealing to academics. It is wildly entertaining. Wildly entertaining.
Like the Choose Your Own Adventure books of old, you will get more out of the book if you put more into it. Read the end notes. Visit Sam Kean's website. He generously shares his research, tells where the reader can access additional resources, and makes book recommendations. I compiled a brand new book wish list from the end notes.
I can only imagine how many hours, days, months, years it takes Sam to write a book. Even so, dear Sam, Please. Write. More. Books.
